NIC Holdings has signed a partnership with Association of University Sport of Uganda (AUUS) as the official insurance partner of the Ugandan team to the 30th World University Games due July 3-15 in Napoli, Italy.

The deal was unveiled on Monday at NIC offices in Kampala by NIC Managing Director Folayan Bayo and AUUS’s Vincent Kisenyi, who is also the Team Uganda manager. The package, according to Bayo, is worth $4.7m and it covers all players, coaching staff and team doctor.

The policy also covers against emergency medical expenses, legal fees and medical transportation amongst others.

“We have been the number one corporate supporter of sports in Uganda for over 30 years which is in line with our community development programme through sports as players can perform highly without worries. Our vision is to create an enabling environment for al athletes so that they too can compete on a global platform and rank among the best in the world,” noted Bayo, who challenged the team to post good results.

The team that was officially flagged off last week leaves this Tuesday morning aboard Turkish Airlines. The contingent led by AUUS treasurer Paul Mark Kayongo has 32 athletes and 9 officials. They will compete in swimming, tennis and athletics. Uganda was the best at the continent last year and finished among the top 20 in the world with their 2 Gold and 1 Silver medal from Athletics.
