For the first three circuits of the Nile Special 7s (Wakiso, Entebbe and Arua), Kobs were always being beaten at the quarter finals stage and even struggled at group stage, something that made them to stay behind other top sides.
Kobs who are the title holders finally got off the mark in the 2022 season after they beat log leaders Heathens 10-07 in the finals of the fourth circuit played over the weekend at Kings Park Arena, Bweyogerere in Wakiso District. Stanbic Black Pirates were the hosts.
Kobs skipper Mark Osuna ran the show for his side but it was Aaron Jurua and Derrick Atukwaisibwe who got Kobs’ tries in the finals while Lawerence Sebuliba touched down for the ‘yellow machine.’
“I’m so motivated that we were finally able to win the circuit. We’re now on for the battle and we want to finish strong this season,” Osuna said adding that Kobs will build on the Kings Park win going forward.
With only three circuits left to wind down the season, it might be a little late for Kobs as they only moved to seventh place (52 points) and 23 points off the summit with leaders Heathens having 75 points, seven ahead of second placed Heathens and 10 ahead of third placed Pirates.
The fourth circuit of the Nile Special 7s, also dubbed Rujumba Sevens had Osuna walking away with the MVP award after posting a standout performance.
Kobs are now hoping for a strong finish after the return of some of their key palyers to the side including Pius Ogena and Byron Oketayot who haven’t been featuring on the matchday sheets.
Nile Special 7s will take a break this weekend but three more circuits will be played at Buhinga Stadium in Fort Portal (next weekend), later at Bugembe in Jinja and finally at Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala.
