The annual Nkumba Volleyball Open gets underway this Friday till Sunday at the University’s sports complex in Entebe.

It is the 23rd edition of the annual tournament and hosts Nkumba University Volleyball Club (NUVC -A) are the ladies defending champions.

The KCB Bank Uganda-sponsored side will hope to defend their title just as Men champions Uganda Christian University (UCU) Doves would also wish. NUVC -A have won all the titles in their line this year and still stand favorites to win their own tournament.

“We are ready and eager to defend the title. We have prepared enough and the team is in high spirits,” noted Nkumba Coach Peter Lakony, who believes that his side’s success is testimony of hard work, devotion, team work.

NUVC -A, who are also the National women league champions, won the 2019 NSSF-KAVC women title recently and enter into the Nkumba Open buoyed for further Silverware.

In the institutions category last year, Nkumba University men emerged champions while NUVC women also retained their title.

Boston High School and Katikamu SDA are the Boys and Girls secondary schools title holders respectively.

St James Primary and Sunrise Primary Schools are the primary schools Boys and Girls defending champions respectively.

A number of local and foreign clubs have confirmed participation in this year’s Nkumba Open that will serve as a curtain raiser for the Nkumba Volleyball festival slated for September 28-29, 2019 at the MTN Arena in Lugogo.

This will be the final event to mark the silver jubilee celebrations of the University and the event proceeds will go towards the heart surgery of Benedict Tukshaba, a P.4 Pupil of St Agnes Centre of Education, Mbarara. Tukshaba’s surgery is due in a few weeks time at the Uganda Heart Institute.
