The 26th edition of the NSSF KAVC International Volleyball Tournament is set to take place from August 2nd to 4th, 2024, at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium and Hockey National Grounds.
This year’s event, sponsored by the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), aims to provide an affordable high-level competitive environment for premier clubs in Uganda and the region. The tournament also celebrates the foundation of the Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC), established in 1970.
The NSSF KAVC International Tournament, which began as a celebration of KAVC’s Silver Jubilee in 1995, has grown into a significant annual event. It initially featured top teams from Rwanda and Holland and has since expanded to include teams from Kenya, Congo, Burundi, and Tanzania.
This year, the tournament will introduce two new categories: Corporate Teams and the involvement of secondary schools, promoting the theme “Championing better community health and behavior through sports.”
Last year’s champions, Rwanda National Police (men) and Armée Patriotique Rwandaise (women), will defend their titles against strong contenders, including teams from Burundi and Uganda.
The tournament is not only a celebration of volleyball excellence but also a tribute to the club’s founders, including the late Dr. Wilson Ojikan-Odeke.
Other sponsors and partners include Pallisa Agro-Processors, Pepsi, NBS Sport, Goodlife Pharmacy, the Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC), the Ministry of Health, and the Uganda Volleyball Federation (UVF). The event promises to be a grand celebration of sport, health, and community, further raising the standards of volleyball in Uganda and the region.
