Event: NSSF KAVC International Tournament

KCB Nkumba University Volleyball Club are currently preparing very well for the NSSF KAVC International Tournament scheduled for 5th-7th August 2022 at Lugogo Sports Complex in Kampala.
Nkumba beat Ndejje Elites in straight sets to win the women’s event of the previous (2019) edition of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) sponsored event at Lugogo. The tournament wasn’t held in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19 disruptions.
Nkumba who are seven-time women’s National League Champions have won the KAVC International Tournament twice and are hoping to claim a third title.
“NSSF KAVC International is a special tournament with a unique atmosphere. We are going to defend it fearlessly,” Nkumba Coach Tonny Peter Lakony said.
Despite posting a low-key performance in the league last season, Lakony believes that the KAVC International is a good stage for his side to return to glory days.
Over the weekend, the team held workout and training sessions at Spenah Beach, Entebbe. At the same venue, the side have been recently enjoying sand therapy sessions which are believed to be very important for injury prevention.
The team also had drills at International School of Uganda in Lubowa and at Lugogo.
Nkumba are now determined to reverse the dismal performance put up last season after losing a number of players due to the lockdown effects.
The KCB Bank sponsored Nkumba team was busy in the market searching for talent to help it achieve success in the new volleyball season. The side lost some players due to Covid-19 effects.
The club welcomed back 2018 League MVP Habiba Namala from her one year professional stint with Rwanda Revenue Authority. The receiver attacker’s experience will be very instrumental in rallying the many youthful players at the club.
The club also went for a Middle blocker in Lydia Asimo to replace Agnes Akanyo who left the club. Lydia previously featured for KCCA Volleyball Club.
Lucky Atukwatse is the other player KCB Nkumba went for when hunting for an additional setter. Lucky moved from Mbarara University of Science and Technology and will support her senior setter Emily Kansiime.
The club eventually won the heart of Science Jemimah a Utility player formally with COBAP Volleyball Club who is going to be very resourceful in rebuilding the Club.
However, the club has since released middle blocker and long serving player Saidat Nnungi who went to Sport -S Volleyball Club.
Meanwhile, NSSF injected UGX70M into this year’s edition of the KAVC event.
