Police FC produced a composed and clinical display to beat league leaders KCCA FC 2-0 at the Police Arena on Tuesday evening, handing the Kasasiro Boys only their second defeat of the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season.
The match marked the return of domestic football after a short AFCON 2025 break, and it was the hosts who looked sharper as the league resumed, capitalising on a dominant second-half performance to secure all three points.
KCCA arrived at Kira Road sitting top of the table and eager to maintain momentum despite Uganda Cranes’ early AFCON exit. However, they found a disciplined and well-drilled Police side waiting for them.
The opening half was largely uneventful, with both teams prioritising structure and defensive solidity. Midfield battles dominated proceedings, and clear-cut chances were few and far between as the sides went into the break deadlocked.
Police raised the tempo immediately after halftime and were rewarded in the 51st minute through Brian James Obedi. A headed clearance by Denis Kalanzi fell kindly into the midfielder’s path, and Obedi wasted no time, unleashing a powerful long-range strike that left the KCCA goalkeeper with no chance.
The goal unsettled the visitors, and Police continued to dictate play. Their pressure told again just after the hour mark when Congolese forward Bedia Djuma Ikamba doubled the lead with a composed finish to cap off a swift attacking move.
KCCA attempted to rally late on, throwing numbers forward in search of a response, but Police remained compact and resolute at the back to see out the game and register a memorable victory.
The win propels Police FC to second place on 24 points, keeping them firmly in the title conversation. KCCA, meanwhile, remain top with 26 points, though their grip on the summit has loosened as the season gathers pace.
Elsewhere on matchday 12, Buhimba United Saints edged Maroons 1-0 at Royal Park, Butema, thanks to Derick Byabacwezi’s decisive strike that ended their eight-game winless run.
At St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, Vipers SC closed the day in style with a 2-0 victory over Mbarara City, ensuring the title race remains finely balanced.
