The MTN FUFA Awards 2024 lit up the Kampala Serena Hotel in a glitzy ceremony that celebrated the very best of Ugandan football, with SC Villa’s Patrick Jonah Omedi and She Maroons’ Fazila Ikwaput Nandede crowned the Male and Female Player of the Year, respectively.
The black-tie gala attracted top footballers, coaches, administrators, fans, and media, filling the luxurious venue to capacity as Uganda’s football fraternity celebrated a season of stellar performances and growth.
In his opening remarks, Rogers Byamukama, Chairperson of the Organising Committee and FUFA Executive Committee Member, noted the significance of the night beyond trophies:
“Tonight is a beautiful day. We are not here to just celebrate footballers but also everyone who supports the beautiful game. We pledge that the 2024/2025 Season Awards will be much bigger than this.”
FUFA President Hon. Moses Magogo applauded the return of the event in a live broadcast format on FUFA TV, as earlier promised. He also hinted at future improvements:
“We intend to have the 2024/2025 Awards before the end of this year. This will help us overcome the overlap we have experienced in this edition.”
The ceremony was a blend of entertainment and recognition, with fans cheering their favourites and capturing special moments with stars of the local game. Omedi and Nandede’s performances throughout the season earned them the night’s top honours, cementing their place in Uganda’s football history.
