Optimistic Cranes jet out for Cosafa tournament

The Uganda Cranes COSAFA team conducted their final training at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo on Tuesday prior to flying out this Wednesday to Durban City, South Africa for the ongoing tournament.

The 29-man contingent led by Richard Ochom has 20 players and 9 officials. According to stand-in Head coach Abdullah Mubiru, every selected player is ready to give his best in the COSAFA Championship.

“The players know the value of team work. I have full confidence in my players and I expect them to deliver,” noted Mubiru, who is handling the team in the absence of Head coach Sebastien Desabre currently in Abu Dhabi with the Uganda Cranes AFCON Squad.

The team has been in residential training for the last 2 weeks and played a practice match with Western Region Select team in between which won 1-0 in Bushenyi.

Uganda Cranes, who will begin the tournament at the quarterfinal stage against Lesotho on Saturday, June 1, want to use the tournament o test local based players likely to be used in CHAN championship next year.

The squad:

Goal keepers: Charles Lukwago (KCCA) and James Alitho (URA)

Others: Paul Willa (Police), Kizza Mustafa (KCCA), Revita John (Express), Isinde Isaac (Kirinya Jinja SS), Hassan Musana (KCCA), Mujuzi Mustafa (Proline), Muzamiru Mutyaba (KCCA), Kagimu Shafik Kuchi (URA), Kasozi Nicolas (KCCA), Mbowa Paul Patrick (URA), Kayiwa Allan (Tooro United), Balinya Juma (Police), Mucureezi Paul (Mbarara City), Senkatuka Nelson ( Bright Stars), Anukani Bright (Proline), Serunkuuma Dan (Vipers SC), Birungi Komunda Micheal (Express) and Isiagi Opolot Daniel (Al Nasir)
