Uganda’s seed one at the ongoing ITF World Tennis Tour in Kampala David Oringa had a losing start to the competition after falling to 25-year old Lithuanian Julius Tverijona on Tuesday by straight sets.
Oringa lost 6-1, 6-2 in a shocking affair at the Centre Court of Lugogo Tennis Complex. Both players have hard surface as their favorite are right handed which are similar attributes although Trerijonas is ranked 1384th in the ITF World Tennis Singles far ahead of Oringa, who is ranked in 2380th position.
Oringa says that despite the loss, the game presented him with many learning opportunities and was able to understand his weaknesses that he intends to correct and return stronger.
“Tverijonas was very good in the way he played; he managed to put more balls on court,” he said.
Oringa`s sponsor and coach for the tournament Rakesh Rai lauded the Trademark Kinetic player albeit the disappointing start. The ITF World Tennis Tour is the new name for all former Pro-Circuit tournaments.
It provides the entry level of Professional Tournaments for men and women enabling players to eventually reach the higher level tournaments on the ATP Tour or WTA Tour and serving as the player pathway between the junior game and professional tennis.
The Men’s ITF World Tennis Tour offers approximately 600 tournaments in over 70 countries worldwide.
