Castle Lite Uganda Open Golf Tournament

August 29 – 14th September

Ladies Open: Martha Babirye – UG (Winner)

Amateurs Open: Daniel Nduva – Kenya

10 September – Pro-Am

11 – 14 September: Professionals Open

Over 130 pros from different countries are expected to participate in this year’s Uganda Open golf tournament Pro-Am that tees off this Wednesday till Saturday at the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Kigo.

Pros are playing for a cash prize of $50,000 to be shared among themselves depending on performance.

Uganda’s Herman Mutebi, who recently turned professional (pro), will be making his Uganda Open Golf Tournament Pro debut and is itching to have a successful debut at the Castle Lite sponsored event.

The Entebe golf club star was runner up at the Amateurs event last year. The Pro Open which is in its 14th edition is the final leg of the 78th edition of the annual international tournament.

“My target is to finish among the top 5 or even win it if it all goes well,” Mutebi affirmed his readiness for the 72-stroke play competition.

This year’s Pros engagement will also double as one of the legs of the 2019-2020 Kenya Safari Series Tour. It will also double as the qualifier to the European Tour, also the 2020 Magical Kenya Open.

This will be the premier qualifying tournament of the European Tour in East Africa but the Uganda Open leg carries more points than any other engagement.

‘I want to collect Safari tour points because I want to take part in the Magical Kenya Open 2020,” added Mutebi.

Kenya’s Dismas Indiza, 51 is the defending champion in the Pros event after coming on top for the fifth time last year at Entebbe Golf Club with a total gross of 274.

The Uganda Open is sponsored by Nile Breweries Limited through the Castle Lite flagship brand with Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), Liquid Telecom, Pepsi, Britam, Absa, Isuzu and NTV as other sponsors.
