Last weekend, the Beach Touch Rugby Fun Festival and Tournament was held at the scenic shores of Coco Beach in Entebbe. The event was part of Swans Sports Club’s legacy program- teach them young to live healthy enjoyable lifestyles
Players and spectators alike flocked to the sandy shores of Coco Beach for a fun-filled day of beach touch rugby. The tournament, which brought together a large number of teams, exceeded expectations and demonstrated the best of sporting spirit. Awareness of Breast Cancer was also championed at the tournament.
“We also had board games, chess, pool table, ludo, playing cards and other different games and of course beach touch rugby,” said Regina Lunyolo, the head organizer of the event, adding that; “the notable thing was breast cancer screening and awareness by the Uganda Cancer Institute. This was the goal of the tournament and people were checked and screened and for me that was the highlight.”
“We really appreciate all those that showed up. I believe they see sport as a tool for social change and a necessary vehicle to relay messages around societal challenges that affect us like cancer as well as Gender Based Violence and other societal ills,” Lunyolo added.

The tournament was not just about winning. The players and organizers emphasized the importance of playing for the fun of the game and fostering positive sportsmanship. This was evident on and off the field, with players applauding their opponents’ skills, cheering for everyone, and thanking each other afterward, regardless of the outcome.
The event which was won by the Housing Finance Bank team was powered by Hotel No.5, Knightriders discotheque, Plus256studios and Uganda Cancer Institute
The tournament’s success bodes well for future editions, and it sends a clear message that beach touch rugby is a sport that’s here to stay. With such a strong emphasis on good sportsmanship, it’s clear that the beach touch rugby community is doing its part to keep sporting spirit alive and well.
