New-look Stanbic Black Pirates condemned Impis to a 10 – 32 defeat in a matchday 12 encounter of the Nile Special Rugby Premier League 2023 season on Saturday at the Makerere Graveyard.
The win came just a day after Black Pirates signed a new three year deal with their sponsor Stanbic Bank with the team aiming to keep its status as one of the best in the country. They also debuted their new kit that was unveiled on Friday.
At the Graveyard, Pirates ran in six tries and one conversion against Impis’ one try scored by Amos Asiimire and one conversion and one penalty both slotted home by Edmond Waya.
Pirates were 00-12 up by halftime thanks two tries from Solomon Banaawa and Ivan Magomu. The former utilized one conversion as the visitors looked to sail to victory.
In the second half, Banaawa touched down one again. Arnold Atukunda also crossed the whitewash with Sydney Gongodyo grabbing a brace and later claimed man of the match honors after the game.
Meanwhile, earlier on at Makerere, Jinja Hippos beat Rams 11 – 28 to keep them winless in the men’s top tier division. The latter are the only team yet to win in the campaign and are one of the best candidates for relegation.
In summary, all hosts lost including Rhinos who were hosting the second round of the Legends derby in Kampala with Kobs coming atop off a 08 – 31 triumph to keep their title credentials up.
In Entebbe, Plascon Mongers lost 12 – 17 to Buffaloes whilst Walukuba Barbarians fell prey to Platinum Credit Heathens with a 03 – 40 defeat in Jinja.
