With six points after two outings, Frank Tayebwa is the joint-leader of Men’s Group A of the Uganda National Tennis Championship and he hasn’t dropped a set in the eight-player pack.
Trevor Kazibwe, Marvin Kiriwo both posses the above statistics but have lost more games (7 and 8 respectively) than Tayebwa (5) hence they take position two and three on the table.
Last time out (19th March), Tayebwa who is the men’s title holder in the championship swept Joel Mwisuke easing past him with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph and keeping him winless in the competition.
For matchday 3 scheduled for Sunday, 26th March at Makerere tennis courts, Tayebwa will come up against bottom placed Bob Matsiko who is yet to win a single set in the group.
Tayebwa, a student of Kibuli SS (S.6) says that he trains almost everyday and even ahead of his encounter with Matsiko, he had a session and believes that he will come atop.
“I’m going to play with a very positive mind ready to win. I’m not giving anyone a chance. Every match I play I take it seriously,” Tayebwa said in a pre-match interview adding that he seeks to get out of the group and secure a slot in the quarter finals.
Facing a bottom placed player also gives Tayebwa a huge boost ahead of the clash and he notes that; “I have already won two games and I believe I win a third one on Sunday.”
Tayebwa also says that he is hoping to go all the way up this season. He however says that Trevor Kazibwe, Marvin Kiriwo who are also perfect in the group are his biggest challengers but he’ll see how to past them when they meet later in the championship.
Other key matches include; Trevor Kazibwe vs Marvin Kiriwo, Patience Athieno vs Alison Comfort and Francis Agonzebwe vs Kato Said Musa.
