Rhinos aim for strong Rugby Premier League finish

During the 2019/20 Rugby Premier League that ended prematurely due to COVID-19 disruptions, Rhinos finished the season as the last team on the 10-team table with six points from one win and 12 losses (13 games).

Rhinos who had finished the 2018/19 season as league runners up survived relegation in the next season after the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) said that there won’t be any promotions or demotions in any league. There were five games unplayed in the men’s top tier though the title was later awarded to log leaders Heathens who had 63 points, five ahead of second placed Kobs.

However, this season, Rhinos somehow seem to be righting some of their previous wrongs and with four games left to wind down the season, the seemingly ‘horny’ Rhinos side could possibly survive the axe for they are currently seventh on the table with eight points (from two wins and three losses), three ahead of eighth placed Impis. Rams who are ninth on the table have one point while bottom placed (10th) Warriors have no point.

With this season being played in only one round, Rhinos skipper Arnold Kizza believes that they will have to play each game cautiously as the men in yellow aim for a strong league finish this season.

“In this very short version of the league, we treat every game as a final and our preparation for all teams is the same. We will make sure we prepare very rigorously so that we deliver a performance befitting of the club,” Kizza told URU media.

Rhinos host Impis this Saturday, 4 p.m at Legends Grounds in a matchday six league fixture with this season taking its final bend. Impis too will be seeking points as they aim to stay clear of the guillotine with only one team set to be relegated.
