All is set for the Rugby Africa Cup Men’s Tournament 2024, set to take place in Uganda, from July 20 to 28. This continental showcase, which Uganda won in 2007, brings together 8 nations from across Africa, featuring the finest rugby talent.
The tournament that will feature defending champions Namibia, Kenya, Algeria, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe and Burkina Faso, will be played at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole, and Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
The games will kick off tomorrow Saturday July 20 with Namibia facing Burkina Faso at 10 am, followed by Kenya versing Senegal at 12 pm, Algeria against Ivory Coast at 2 pm, and hosts Uganda taking on Zimbabwe at later on at 4 pm at Namboole.
The captains’ photoshoot took place this Friday at the Nelson Mandela monument right in front of Namboole Stadium.
Hosts Uganda have been putting in the work in the lead-up to the competition and are eager to lift the championship after nearly two decades.
“We are honoured to host this prestigious tournament and excited to compete against the best teams in Africa,” said Ivan Magomu, Captain of the Rugby Cranes XVs. “We have been working tirelessly to guarantee a good performance throughout the tournament, as well as deliver a thrilling experience for our fans and visitors.”
Fred Mudoola, the team’s head coach says that preparations have been impressive, and they are confident in their ability to perform well.
The opening round of the tournament will be followed by classification matches. On Wednesday July 24, the semi-finals and placement semi-finals will take place at Wankulukuku.
The tournament will wrap up with what promises to be an exciting finale at Namboole on Sunday, July 28 at 4pm, after the earlier matches for 7th, 5th, and 3rd place.
The Rugby Africa Cup also signals the start of the 2027 men’s Rugby World Cup qualifiers for Africa, featuring a straight knockout format from the quarterfinal stage onward.
Matchday one after party will be ignited by an impressive lineup featuring Winnie Nwagi, DJ Shock, DJ Tonny Wallace, Duke Play as the hype man, among others.
