Uganda Golf Club professional Abbey Bagalana tied for 10th with five others during the opening round of the first event of Season 4 (2021/22) of the Safari Tour played on Sunday at Sigona Golf Club’s par-72 course on Sunday.

Bagalana who has had many stints at the Safari Tour has been camped in Kenya prior to tee-off and managed 1 over par 73 to keep himself atop many players ahead of the second round which is currently underway.

Other Ugandans in the mix also managed to make the day one cut after posting good scores in a round that had lots of ties.

Philip Kasozi tied for 16th with seven others off 2 over par 74, Deo Akope tied for 24th with six others off 3 over par 75, Brian Toolit tied with five others off 5 over par 77 whilst Abraham Ainimani tied with seven others off 7 over par 79.

However, Malawian pro Paul Chidale was day one leader after shooting 4 under par 68, a shot better than Zimbabwe’s Tafara Mpofu who made his series debut at Sigona.

Promise Silla (87) and Shilean Nanji (91) missed the day one cut.

In all, 61 players turned up out of the initial entry of 63, who included three amateurs.

Two players, Greg Snow and amateur Zubair Khan did not show up. Snow said he was forced to pull out because of a shoulder injury.

The second round will determine the top 20 who will proceed to the money list.
