Ahead of the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally (POAUR) slated for 6-8 May 2022, organizers and sponsors/partners are preaching about safety to ensure that the event ends well, without any unwanted incidents.

The message was re-echoed on Thursday as KCB Bank Uganda unveiled a UGX70M sponsorship for the event. The exercise took place at Commercial Plaza in Kampala.

“We urge fans and everyone else to follow safety protocols. We have to exercise extreme caution and listen to safety martials,” Event Manager, Kenneth Kitariko said during the KCB sponsorship unveiling.

“We’ve identified viewing points, these points will be facilitated and spectators will be entertained at these points with viewing screens,” Kitariko noted adding that local leaders and Uganda Police, including their fire brigade department will be engaged to ensure safety prevails.

Kitariko added that FIA is sending a safety delegate to monitor the event because they’re taking a keen interest in the event.

Commenting about the support towards the Pearl Rally, Diana Komukama Ssempebwa who’s Head of Marketing and Communications at KCB Bank Uganda said; “…we believe this contribution will greatly support the preparation and execution of the planned activities that will build up to the week that the rally is scheduled to happen.”

Komukama also re-echoed the message of safety urging everyone that will be there to follow safety protocols.

FMU President Dipu Ruparelia says that the package from KCB will help them prepare for the rally. He also calls upon fans to show up for the event but should follow safety protocols.

David Mayanja, Clerk of Course for the event revealed that the new route is very safe but still safety protocols must be followed.

This year’s rally will be based in Mukono and Lugazi; which are in the central region of Uganda.

Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally will count towards the FIA African Rally Championship and also the National Rally Championship.

By press time, 32 entries were confirmed. Organisers will allow a maximum number of forty-five (45) entries.
