SC Villa kicked off their StarTimes Uganda Premier League title defence with a commanding 4-2 victory over Mbarara City at the Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, on Monday, September 16, 2024.
Goals from Arnold Odong, Jonah Patrick Kakande, Elvis Ngonde, and Hakim Kiwanuka sealed the win for coach Morley Byekwaso’s side. Despite late strikes from Seiri Arigumaho and Paul Busolo, Mbarara City’s efforts were not enough to stage a comeback.
Villa took an early lead through Odong after eight minutes, with Ngonde doubling the advantage 11 minutes later. Kakande extended the lead early in the second half, and Kiwanuka added a fourth. Mbarara pulled two goals back late, but the damage was already done.
Elsewhere, Police and BUL FC played out a goalless draw at Kavumba Ground, with Police’s Gerald Ogweti sent off during the match.
The result sees SC Villa join Kitara, NEC, and KCCA at the top of the table with three points after one match.
