Sebuguzi gets UGX25 Million Shell boost ahead of Safari Rally

Ugandan rally driver Ronald Sebuguzi of the Sebuguzi Rally Team has received a UGX25 Million cash sponsorship from Shell V-Power ahead of the World Rally Championship (WRC) – Safari Rally 2021 slated for 24 – 27 June in Nairobi, Kenya.

Sebuguzi, a three-time Uganda National Rally Champion is one of four rally drivers to qualify for the Nairobi event and has promised to put up a good show.

“I look forward to representing my country at this prestigious motor-sporting event. I am grateful to Shell V-Power for the support that they have offered to me through the years as a professional racer,” Sebuguzi said as he was flagged off on Friday at Shell Bugolobi.

Mark Mutungi, the Fuels Manager, Vivo Energy Uganda says that they are happy to partner with Sebuguzi and believes that he will put in the work.

“I appreciate Ronald and his fellow drivers for the hard work they have continuously put in the game. Shell V-Power is proud to be part of the journey, working with champions like Ronald Sebuguzi. Through this sponsorship, we are fueling his ambitions to represent our country at this prestigious motorsport event,” Mutungi said.

For a while now, Shell V-Power has been a big supporter of rallying and other sporting events including; the National Rally Championships, Pearl of Africa Rally, Kabalega Rally and the National Motocross Championships.

“We reiterate our commitment to growing rallying and racing as a sport in Uganda through offering support to both the drivers and the sporting events. This year, that will be no different,” Mutungi added.

The WRC returns to Africa for the first time since 2002. The Safari Rally of old has evolved to fit the modern-day WRC, but its character remains with challenging closed dirt roads, stunning picture-postcard scenery and exotic wildlife. Competitors can expect rocky and rutted tracks and unpredictable weather which could transform dry and dusty trails into glutinous mudbaths.

This year’s edition will mark the sixty-eighth running of the Safari Rally. The event will be the sixth round of the 2021 World Rally Championship, World Rally Championship-2 and World Rally Championship-3.
