Elgon Cup 2019
Uganda vs Kenya
Ladies fixture: 1:30pm
Men’s fixture: 4:00pm
Uganda Rugby Cranes Coach Robert Seguya believes he selected the best players for the first leg of the 2019 Elgon Cup due this Saturday at the Momboleo Stadium in Kisumu City, Kenya. Seguya named his squad for the two-legged annual tie on Monday with some ‘big names’ missing on the squad list.
Philip Wokorach, Michael Wokorach, Ivan Magomu, Justin Kimono are mysteriously missing on the list but the coach remains confident ahead of the fixture.
“The competition in the camp was tight and I believe the players I selected will play their hearts out,” noted Seguya, John Duncan’s assistant during last year’s international season.
“We had enough training and the mood in the camp was very positive. We are good to go,” he added.
The team that arrives in Kenya on Thursday has a number of Kenyan based players; Quins trio of Aaron Ofoyrwoth, Daudi Semwami and Adrian Kasito as well as Kabras Sugar’s Asuman Mugerwa and Eliphaz Emong, Impala’s Saul Kivumbi and Joseph Kagimu from USIU.
This year’s Elgon Cup staging will see the return of women action and Edgar Lemerigar’s charges will play before the men fixture.
Kenya has won 13 Elgon Cup titles against Uganda’s three with the last victory coming in 2012.
