Seroma, British School of Kampala headline USSSA Swimming Championships

Hosts Seroma Christian High School jumped four places from last year to top the boys’ category of the Uganda Secondary School Sports Association Swimming Championships this weekend.

The championship was a selection event for the swimmers that will represent Uganda at the FEASSA 2024 games in Bukedea district during the month of August.

“I welcome all of you to Seroma Christian High School in Kyetume, we were delighted to have been selected to host the championship but this is only the beginning. As Seroma we plan to develop more sports facilities in place to help grow and develop talent. The efforts of everyone behind the struggles is much appreciated”. Mrs Amelia Kyambadde ,the resident director of Seroma Christian High School.

Seroma finished fifth behind Aga Khan, Greenhill Academy – Kibuli, Seeta Green Campus and St. Mary’s College Kisubi at last year’s edition held at Greenhill.

Mwangi K Karen, Ayebare Ryan and Kagina Angello were the outstanding swimmers of Seroma.

Lubega Akram and Nakasule Rahma Kalungi also did their very best to see Lubiri SS finish 5th overall. Both swimmers represented Uganda at the FEASSA 2023 games in Huye, Rwanda.

Special recognition went to Nabumali High School who travelled all the way from Mbale district amd Ndejje SSS from Luwero district. While this was their first time to take part in a USSSA Swimming championship,Nabumali High School are not new to swimming competitions. Led by Coach Collins Wasswa Matovu Nabumali are reviving their swimming after renovating the swimming pool earlier this year.

But this time, they made home advantage count as they collected 395 points to finish first ahead of Greenhill (318.5 point), Aga Khan (317.5), BSK (British School of Kampala) Rafters (234) and Elite High School (233) among 13 participating schools in the boys’ category.BSK, on the other hand, managed to defend the girl’s trophy with 463 points and were joined by Greenhill (339) and Seroma (292). The hosts again jumped up a place leaving last year’s third placed team Elite High School settling for fourth with 241 points.

The Guest of honor Mrs Juliet Muzora Atuhaire, Commissioner Secondary Education, Ministry of Education and Sports appreciated the schools for taking part in such games that allow the learners. “To every learner that participated in this event is a winner, there are so many things that we learn in sports. For example the value of resilience was exhibited with each and every swimmer today”.
