The 5th edition of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) National Swimming Championship gets underway today at Seroma Christian High School, with the country’s top secondary school swimmers set to compete for national honors and places on Team Uganda.
The three-day championship has attracted leading swimming schools from across Uganda, including Seroma Christian High School, Aga Khan High School, Greenhill Academy, Mengo Secondary School, Gayaza High School, St. Mary’s College Kisubi, British School of Kampala, King’s College Budo, Lubiri Secondary School, North Green, Ndejje SSS, Elite High School, and several others.
Beyond the race for medals, the championship also serves as the official selection event for Team Uganda ahead of the East Africa School Games scheduled to take place in Morogoro, Tanzania, in August.
Hosts Seroma Christian High School enter the competition as defending champions after dominating the 2025 edition by winning both the boys’ and girls’ team titles. Last year, Seroma amassed 877 combined points to finish ahead of Aga Khan High School (768) and British School of Kampala (664), while Greenhill Academy placed fourth with 618 points.
In the boys’ category last year, Seroma claimed gold ahead of Aga Khan High School and Greenhill Academy. In the girls’ competition, Seroma again emerged champions, followed by British School of Kampala in second place and Aga Khan High School in third.
This year’s championship also marks the third consecutive time that Seroma Christian High School has hosted the national event, highlighting the school’s growing reputation as one of Uganda’s premier venues for school swimming competitions. Previous hosts include Greenhill Academy in 2023 and Elite High School in 2024.
