Event: Singleton Match Play Challenge, Round One
Date: Saturday, 12th February 2022
Venue: Entebbe Golf Club

With the Singleton Match Play Challenge Season 6 set to change format from stroke play to match play in round one, the all-female teams (five of them) which made the qualifying round cut last month will be up against all-male sides in the first round of the tournament slated for Saturday, 12th February at Entebbe Club’s par-71 lakeside golf course.

With no all-female teams facing each other on Saturday, the draws imply three things, that is; all-female teams could make it to next month’s second round, maybe just some female teams could progress and at worst all-female teams could exit the tournament should they all be beaten.

2018 winning pair of Peace Kabasweka/Sheila Kesiime who have reunited after sometime apart shot a combined 143 nett (73, 70) in the qualifiers to set up a date with an all-male team of Fred Kimbugwe/Joseph Kimani. The former are chasing for a second title while the latter are seeking to get off the mark.

Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) President Anne Abeja and her playing partner Jovia Tugume shot 72 nett apiece to set up a date with an all-male team of Patrick Kagoro and Fred Kasumba in round one. Both teams are chasing a maiden title.

Charity Tushabomwe/Victoria Bagaya had a combined 141 nett (66/75) in last month’s qualifying round and will be up against an all-male team of Nathan Mubiru and Ronnie Kasirye in round one with both teams in pursuit for a maiden title in the main event.

Sharon Musinenta/Lillian Koowe who returned a combined 144 nett after shooting 72 nett apiece last month in the qualifiers will face Thomas Kato and Ram Shaban in round one.

The other all-female team of Patricia Nakasi/Bernadette Musanabera will face the male pair of Timothy Kayondo/Kenneth Kiddu with all the parties seeking to get off the mark.

64 pairs are in round one but only half of them will make it to round two scheduled for next month at the same venue.

Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) through their Singleton Whiskey brand is the tournament lead sponsor. Its partners are; RwandAir, DSTV, NCBA, hTC and Riders Lounge Entebbe.

Singleton Match Play Challenge Past Winners:
2020: Innocent Nahabwe/Adoch Luwum
2019: Richard Lutwama/Robert Busingye
2018: Peace Kabasweka/Sheila Kesiime
2017: Isaac Mariera/John Muchiri.
