Four all-female teams have made it to the next/second round of the Singleton Match Play Challenge Season 6 main event after the first round was played on Saturday at Entebbe Club’s par-71 lakeside golf course.
Five all-female teams were in action on Saturday but one of them couldn’t proceed to the next stage of the competition slated for next month (12th March) at the same venue. Seven all-female teams entered this year’s competition and three of them have been showed the exit so far.
Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) President Anne Abeja and her playing partner Jovia Tugume were the only all-female team who exited the main event of the tournament in the first round after losing 5/4 to an all-male team of Patrick Kagoro and senior player Fred Kasumba.
2018 winning pair of Peace Kabasweka/Sheila Kesiime who have reunited after sometime apart are sailing on and are in serious pursuit for a second title. They beat an all-male team of Fred Kimbugwe/Joseph Kimani 4/3 to make it to the second round of the tournament.
Charity Tushabomwe/Victoria Bagaya are the other all-female side still in the main event of the tournament. They beat Nathan Mubiru and Ronnie Kasirye 3/2 to book a slot in next month’s do.
Sharon Musimenta/Lillian Koowe who are in pursuit for a maiden title are through to the next round after beating an all-male team of Thomas Kato and Ram Shaban 4/2 in the first round.
Patricia Nakasi/Bernadette Musanabera are the other all-female team who have made it to the second round of the competition after beating an all-male team of Timothy Kayondo/Kenneth Kiddu 1up.
32 teams will be in the second round of the tournament, making it 16 match ups. Half of the teams will proceed to the next round of the main event. 64 teams were in action on Saturday but as it’s always the case, half of teams are shown the exit while half proceed.
However, in the subsidiaries, Palm Valley Golf and Country Club’s Meron Kyomuhisha bagged a hat-trick of accolades after winning the Ladies Group A (40 points), Nearest to the pin ladies and the ladies longest drive.
Dianah Nabukenya was ladies Group B winner with 40 points.
The men’s side bets were won by Tarzan Lubega (longest drive) and John Mukibi (nearest to the pin).
Group A men was won by Paul Nuwagaba with 37 points, Shah George topped men’s Group B with 40 points whilst Yoweri Ndiga was the best in men’s Group C with 40 points.
