Season 6 of the Singleton Match Play Challenge was launched on Tuesday, 18th January at Entebbe Golf Club ahead of its tee-off this weekend (Saturday, 22nd January) at the club’s par-71 lakeside course.
The 2021 edition (Season 5) wasn’t completed following the second nation wide lockdown that was announced midyear as a tool to curb the second wave of Covid-19 pandemic then.
This season the tournament has received a UGX350M boost from Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) through their Singleton Whiskey brand and all stake holders are geared up for tee-off including the host club.
“We are very happy that this event has returned. The tournament will be played in over seven events happening once every month,” Entebbe Golf Club Captain Eng. Jacob Byamukama said at the tournament launch with the Saturday qualifier round calling.
For the qualification round, 128 pairs will make the cut to round one scheduled for next month. It will be played via stroke play format but round one to the final round will be played on match play format.
Singleton Whiskey Brand Manager, Christine Kyokunda expressed her delight in return of the tournament adding that it’s a continuation of a good time on and off the course.
“It’s been an amazing experience since the Inaugural edition and I believe this season will even be better. We are happy to be back to announce Season 6 of the competition.,” Kyokunda told media at the tournament launch.
Tournament partner, RwandAir who have been aboard since the tournament’s inception will offer two air tickets to eventual winners who will fly out for the Dubai Desert Classic while 10 subsidiary players will also claim tickets and will be able to travel to any place that’s within the reach of RwandAir.
“We want to motivate golfers to work hard in this tournament and later enjoy themselves after it. I believe it will be a great event and we’re delighted to be on board once again,” Country Manager RwandAir Ivan Mugisha said.
Singleton Whiskey is the tournament lead sponsor. Its partners are; RwandAir, DSTV, NCBA, hTC and Riders Lounge Entebbe.
For the Saturday qualification round, the theme for the 19th hole experience is ‘Las Vegas’ and the dress code will be ‘Night Out.’
