Semi final, return leg

Bugema 2 (2) -1 (4) UCU (Agg: 3-3)

Goal keeper and captain Emmanuel Derrick Were remarkable performance inspired Uganda Christian University (UCU) to first ever Pepsi University Football League final as his side ejected resilient Bugema University on Wednesday.

Were saved two penalties to cap his Man of the match performance as UCU beat Bugema University 4-2 in penalties during the return leg in Bugema after the two sides drew 3-3 on aggregate.

UCU had won the first leg in Mukono 2-1 but Bugema, who ejected last year’s champions Kyambogo University at the previous stage, overturned the first leg result with a 2-1 victory to force penalty shoot-outs.

Like the first leg, the visiting UCU took the lead at the stroke of halftime through Kaye Kizito’s low shot. Mugomba Frank equalized in the 80th minute before Musiima Isaac leveled the tie with the second for the hosts in the last minute of added time.

In the shootout, Were saved two penalties as UCU won 4-2 to book a place at the final scheduled for November 3 at the Namboole stadium. UCU, who were also at the semi final for the first time, face the winner between Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) and St. Lawrence University (SLAU) who play their return leg this Friday at Nkozi. Their first leg ended in a one all stalemate.
