Third-place play-off

Bugema vs UMU, 12pm

St Lawrence University (SLAU) captain Ibrahim Owen Kasule wants to win the 2019 Pepsi University football league title as consolation having failed to clinch this year’s Airtel Masaza Cup.

The forward featured for 2016 champions Buddu who settled for a fourth-place having lost to Kyadondo in the third-place play-off before Bulemezi beat Busiro to lift this year’s title.

“It has not been a good year for me but I pray that I win this year’s University league title as consolation. We are very ready and everyone in the team is looking forward to victory on Sunday. “UCU is a great team with very good players. Their skipper Derrick Were is a great goalkeeper I played with him at Lisa Standard academy,” noted Owen, who has scored five goals in this season’s Pepsi University football league.

SLAU takes on Uganda Christian University this Sunday in a much anticipated final at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.

Both sides are playing their first-ever final and this shows increased competition in the league, according to the league chairman Vincent Kisenyi.

SLAU ejected Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) while UCU saw off Bugema University in penalties to storm the final. Busitema and UMU will play in the third-place play-off at midday before the final.

Entrance for both matches goes for a bottle of soda while exclusive sponsors Pepsi have staked aside Shs12m as total cash prize with the winner taking Shs4m.

Kyambogo who were ejected by Bugema at the quarter-finals were last year’s champions.

The final was set to be held last Sunday at Namboole stadium but the facility management suspended activities as the stadium undergoes refurbishment for two weeks.
