Matchday 5 of Season 6 of the SMACK League played on Sunday at Legends Grounds in Kampala coincided with this year’s Father’s Day and the organizers of the bi-weekly tournament decided to honor the fathers at the day-long outing.
Hosted by Vendors (class of 1999), matchday 5 had its own theme dubbed the ‘Reggae Ragga Fiesta.” At the event, the fathers who play or are part of the league were recognized for their contribution to the development of the society.
“This was a special day for the fathers who are at the SMACK League, actually about 70% of our community are fathers. Today’s edition was special for the fathers, people came out with their children today to enjoy the day and we also had a lot of children activities as well like bouncing castles and others,” Joseph Kasule Kawooya who is the Head of Marketing for the SMACK League said adding that the day was dedicated to the fathers.
“In a special way we have also had Stanbic Bank coming on board to sponsor the league, FlexiPay is also here as a payments platform. But of course we continue with our theme which is; play, network and impact,” Kawooya noted adding that; “additionally, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Guinness, the season-long sponsor of the SMACK League.”
The chilly day was heated with thrilling matches and incredible performances, making it a memorable experience for football lovers and music enthusiasts that attended. The highlight of the day was the captivating showdown between Cyclones Class of 2013 and Kiama Class of 2000, resulting in Cyclones securing an impressive 4-2 victory over their opponents.
The winning goal against the Kiama Warriors was expertly sealed by the talented Mugisha Albert, a former Uganda Cranes player, and ex-Police FC star in the Uganda Premier League. Mugisha’s exceptional performance earned him the prestigious titles of Man of the Match and Player of the Day.
The excitement didn’t stop there, as other teams also showcased their skills and claimed victories. The Tsunamis triumphed over the Bushmen with a 2-0 win, while the Alks dominated the Mama Teo Legends, securing a convincing 2-0 victory. JP Sonko Semwanga of the Alks displayed exceptional talent, earning him the well-deserved Man of the Match accolade.
While football was happening on the pitches, eSports was happening at the club house and it had interesting scores as well.
Adding to the exhilarating atmosphere, the Reggae Ragga Dancehall Fiesta featured an array of entertainment from the legendary star Vampino. Taking the stage at 8.30pm, Vampino wowed the crowd with a riveting performance, treating them to a mix of his classic hits and new releases.
Kawooya added that matchday six which will be happening in two weeks time and hosted by Pirates (class of 2012) is going to be bigger and better because the league always gathers momentum from matchday to matchday.
