Soroti City secured their second T20 title in a thrilling final against Olila CC, winning by 16 runs at the Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala this past weekend. The defending champions, led by Proscovia Alako, delivered a standout performance to retain their crown.
Olila CC won the toss and opted to bowl, looking to take early control of the match. Soroti City started steadily, but it was Proscovia Alako’s explosive innings that turned the tide. Alako smashed 43 runs off just 22 balls, propelling Soroti City to a competitive total of 125/6.
In response, Olila CC struggled against Soroti City’s disciplined bowling attack, particularly Evelyn Anyipo, who kept the pressure on throughout the innings. Despite a valiant effort from Captain Phiona Khulume, who scored 33 runs, and Malisa Ariokot, who added 32, Olila CC fell short, finishing on 109/8.
The pair’s partnership of 42 runs gave Olila CC a fighting chance, but Soroti City’s bowlers held their nerve to close out the game. The victory marked Soroti City’s second T20 crown, affirming their status as one of the top teams in the competition. Olila CC, despite a strong performance, will have to wait for another opportunity to add to their 2017 title.
