The Inter-Hub U18 Girls Invitation Tournament came to an end yesterday with an exciting finish to the competition at St. Joseph’s College Layibi in Gulu City.
In the highly anticipated final showdown between the two Soroti Cricket Academy teams, Soroti Cricket Academy-A posted a modest total of 77/10 in 19.3 overs. Timong Patricia top-scored with 23 runs off 28 balls.
Soroti Cricket Academy-B’s bowlers, led by Ariago Mischelle with 3/13 and Icumar Josephine with 2/9, restricted their opponents.
However, in a tense chase, Soroti Cricket Academy-B faltered and were all out for 69 runs. Apio Blessings managed 14 runs off 20 balls, but it wasn’t enough to secure victory. Soroti Cricket Academy-A emerged triumphant by 8 runs and were crowned champions.
Meanwhile, in the battle for third place, Mukono Cricket Community set a target of 123/4 in 20 overs against East Enders. Mbwali Naume’s patient 31 off 49 balls and Naule Hasifa’s aggressive 59 off 56 balls were the highlights. In response, East Enders chased down the target with ease, reaching 124/0 in just 12.2 overs without losing a wicket. Nasuna Whitney and Tikabula Rashida both scored 48 runs each, leading East Enders to a resounding 10-wicket victory.
The tournament was a platform for young female cricket players to showcase their abilities and promote gender equality in the sport. The players demonstrated their skills and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, impressing spectators and encouraging future generations of female cricket players.
