A major milestone has been achieved for cricket in eastern Uganda as Soroti Cricket Academy (SCA) officially inaugurated its new state-of-the-art batting nets, signaling a transformative moment for local player development.
The project was made possible through a successful community fundraising effort during the Soroti Cricket Academy Carnival 2025, which raised three million shillings. In a significant partnership, Cricket Uganda provided astral turf materials, strengthening the nets’ foundation and demonstrating its continued commitment to grassroots cricket.
For years, promising cricketers in Soroti had to travel to Lugogo to access quality training facilities, a journey that was costly and limited their practice time. The new nets now allow players to train consistently at home, improving batting, bowling, and wicketkeeping skills through structured sessions.
With these nets, the academy is no longer dependent on external facilities. Resources can now be directed toward coaching, equipment, nutrition, and player welfare.
The nets also expand opportunities for inclusion, particularly for girls, young children, and vulnerable athletes, ensuring that talent is nurtured regardless of background. High-performance standards are now within reach, reducing the need for players to leave eastern Uganda in search of better development pathways.
