South Africa emerged the winner of the weekend’s Mountain Dew FIM AFRICA Motocross of African Nations Championship held in the central Ugandan district of Wakiso. South Africa had also won the previous edition.

Host Uganda, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya and Tanzania competed in the two-day championship that started on Saturday at Victoria Raceway Track in Garuga.

South Africa collected 654 points, just one ahead of Zimbabwe who finished second. Uganda capped the podium with 578 points whilst neighbors Kenya finished fourth with 346 points.

The annual event saw some of the continent’s prolific riders showcase their skills in a series of races: MX 1, MX 2, MX Masters, MX Veterans, and MX 65.

South Africa won the championship, which is accredited by FIM Africa, an organization that governs motorcycle sport in the African region, followed by Zambia and Uganda.

South Africa’s Breece Romans won in the MX 125 category, followed by Kenya’s Alex Kandie and Zambia’s Michael Struik.

Zambia’s Dale Holiday, Uganda’s James Michael Akena and Andrea Marineli from Uganda finished top three in the MX Masters.

South Africa’s Jayden Proctor topped the MX 1 category, followed by Zambia’s Scott Heygate and Uganda’s Alestair Arthur.

Team South Africa

South Africa will host the 2023 edition of the continental meet.

The event main sponsor was Mountain Dew who injected UGX50M into this year’s do. The co-sponsors were; Vivo Energy, Stanbic Bank, Lato Milk, Fulcrum, Uganda Airlines and Uganda Lodges.

The MXOAN is one of the few Motorcycle events recognized as a ‘Team’ event, where the points of the official riders are tallied to determine who the winning African Nation is.
