In a thrilling showdown at the Mpungu Arena in Masaka, St. Julian Seeta emerged triumphant as they clinched the 2024 USSSA Games championship with a resounding 3-0 win against Amus College.
The match saw James Ssekate shine with a brace, while Simon Wanyama sealed the victory with a crucial goal, propelling St. Julian to their first-ever title in commanding fashion.
St. Julian came close to opening the scoring early on, with Patrick Ssenkusu’s ninth-minute effort cleared off the line. However, it was Ssekate who broke the deadlock six minutes later, capitalizing on a goalkeeping error to slot home an easy tap-in.
Ssekate extended St. Julian’s lead in the 20th minute, capitalizing on defensive lapses from Amus College to double the advantage.
Despite Amus’ attempts to mount a comeback, St. Julian’s solid defensive display thwarted any potential threats, ensuring a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
In the second half, Amus College pressed forward in search of goals, but their efforts were in vain as St. Julian remained resilient at the back.
With 15 minutes remaining, a handball from Toto Majub resulted in a red card and a penalty for St. Julian, which Wanyama duly converted to seal the victory and confirm their status as deserving champions.
Prior to their title-winning performance, St. Julian overcame Bukedea Comprehensive in a penalty shootout, while Amus College ousted defending champions St. Mary’s Kitende to secure their spot in the final.
