Uganda’s table tennis prodigy, Joseph Sebatindira, 9, has been granted a prestigious invitation to attend a specialized High-Level Training Camp in Sweden. Set to take place in Halmstad from May 29th to June 4th, 2024, this opportunity marks a significant milestone in Sir Joseph’s journey to excellence.
The training camp presents an unparalleled chance for Sebatindira and his coach, Alvin Katumba, to elevate their skills and expertise to new heights. This intensive preparation comes ahead of Sebatindira’s participation in the upcoming World Table Tennis Youth Championships, scheduled to unfold in Europe.
The championship series will commence in Sweden, Helsingborg, from June 5th to 8th, followed by the competition in Norway, Sandefjord, from June 10th to 13th. With the global stage awaiting, Sebatindira is poised to showcase his exceptional talent and determination on an international platform.
Acknowledging the significance of this opportunity, Uganda Table Tennis Federation President, Robert Jjagwe extends heartfelt gratitude to the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) for extending the special invitation to Sebatindira. In a gesture of support, ITTF has also provided financial assistance amounting to 4,000 US Dollars (approximately 15 million Ugandan Shillings) to facilitate Sebatindira’s career development and participation in the WTT Competitions.
The groundwork for this remarkable achievement was laid during engagements with ITTF in Busan, South Korea, spearheaded by Uganda Table Tennis Federation and ITTF Board Member, Tom Kiggundu, who also serves as the Managing Director of Fotogenix Ltd. Their collaborative efforts have opened doors of opportunity for Ugandan athletes on the global stage.
Expressing gratitude for Kiggundu’s invaluable contribution, Uganda Table Tennis Federation acknowledges his adept lobbying skills and profound understanding of the intricacies of high-level ITTF engagements. Together, they continue to champion the interests of Ugandan athletes, ensuring they receive the recognition and support they deserve.
