The opening weekend of the 2023 Corporate League had it all; from the football action on various pitches, socializing, food, drinks, music and the like. It all went down on Sunday at Kyadondo Sports Club in Kampala.
The first matchday of the 21st season was graced by Minister of State for Sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, National Council of Sports (NCS) General Secretary Dr. Patrick Ogwel and NCS Chairman Ambrose Tashobya.
The trio savoured the matchday experience at the Nile Special V.I.P lounge and were flanked by Nile Breweries Managing Director Adu Rando, Corporate League Managing Director, Dennis Mbidde and Corporate League Chairperson, Diana Muttu Akello.
Speaking to the press earlier in the day, Mbidde re-echoed the core values of the league, which are networking and maintaining a healthy lifestyle and physical fitness among the participants.
“We had a good start and everything has been going on as planned. I believe everyone has had a good time. We thank all the participants for coming through and I believe we shall have a great season,” Mbidde said.
The opening matchday was purely for football activities with action split across various pitches at the venue.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to weed out mercenaries, Corporate League Chairperson Diana Muttu Akello revealed that NSSF record for all participants will be required for all participants going forward.
The experience was crowned with a musical performance by local artist Kabako. Earlier in the day there was a performance by Uganda Prisons band. Local traditional dances were also on display.
Football remains the dominant sport in the league. However, other disciplines like athletics, volleyball, golf, swimming, tennis, table pool, tug of war are in the mix are will be played later in the season.
