U19 team flagged off for Field Youth League

The Uganda National U19 cricket team was on Monday flagged off to Nairobi, Kenya for the Star Field Youth League –a global youth cricket tournament scheduled for this August 20th – August 26th.

A contingent of 13 players with nine debutants and two officials was flagged off on Tuesday and left by road.

They will play their first game at the T20-format tournament on Wednesday. James Kasumba on behalf of National Council of Sports (NCS) urged the young players to fight for the national flag.

Team captain Pascal Murungi is confident that they will return home with the title. “We are the defending champion and we hope to defend it because we have a very solid team,” he said.

The third edition of the tournament has attracted teams From Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisum, Nakuru, Tanzania, India and South Africa that will participate in different U9, U11, U13, U15 and U19 categories.

Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) hopes to use this tournament as part of preparations for the 2022 U19 World Cup qualifiers. This is the second time Ugandan participates in the Star Field youth league tournament.

Pascal Murungi (captain), Juma Miyagi, Munir Ismail, Edwin Nuwagaba, Ronald Puwata, Anas Baig, Lutaya Ronald, Omara Ronald, Fahad Mutagana, Baguma Joseph, Ochaya Jaffer, Pius Oloka and Akram Nsubuga.

Officials: Jackson Ogwang (Coach), Sylvester Rokani (Team Manager).
