Local boxing governing body, Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) is set to hold national team trials for all categories of players after the current ban/lockdown on sports activities and other various sectors of the economy is lifted.
UBF President, Moses Muhangi confirmed this development to the boxing fraternity in a missive dated 29th June 2021.
“This is to inform all boxing stakeholders that immediately after lockdown, we shall have national team trials that will guide us to select national teams (Uganda Bombers) for youth, juniors and elite categories,” part of the missive read.
The statement further adds that the selected boxers will also participate in the upcoming Boxing Championships League.
The current 42-day lockdown expires on 31st July 2021 and if it’s not extended, boxing activities could return shortly.
Ahead of a possible return to the ring, UBF urges boxers to conduct personal safe drills at home ahead of the national team trials and also other future engagements.
It’s been over a year now since local competitive boxing activities were held. Even after the first noose on sports was loosened in September 2020 after a six months hiatus, no local boxing competitions were held.
For now, local boxing fans will be watching the three Bombers who will be representing the nation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The trio comprises of; Musa Shadir Bwogi (Captain), David Ssemujju and Catherine Nanziri.
