This past weekend, the Uganda Breweries Limited (UBL) Running Club took part in the annual KH3 Kampala Jinja relay, marking another milestone in their training regime ahead of the highly anticipated Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon on August 24.

The UBL running club, with 25 enthusiastic runners, was among hundreds of participants who embraced the 96 km challenge Kampala Jinja Relay.

The relay, which started at 6 am from the Kira Town Council roundabout, saw 36 teams from Kampala and beyond run through the lush landscapes of the Sugar Corporation of Uganda’s sugar plantations and the Mabira Forest Reserve, culminating in an exciting finish in Jinja.

Nsubuga Joseph, a member of the UBL Running Club, noted that this year’s participants are looking to take the challenge a step further.

“This time round we promise to upgrade and make a debut on the 42 km race route. The relay was a crucial part of our preparation to help with building our endurance and basically encourage team spirit as we gear up for the marathon,” he said.

Patience Aguti, UBL’s Project Manager, also highlighted the importance of the relay in their marathon training.

“Participating in the KH3 Kampala Jinja relay is one of the many ways our team is training ahead of the marathon. We’re incredibly proud of our runners and their dedication,” she said.

The day concluded with a lively after-party at the Nile Hotel in Jinja, where runners had the chance to unwind, socialize, and celebrate their achievements. This celebration served as a preview of the excitement and fun anticipated for the marathon day in Kasese, both in the morning and evening.

“We are planning an unforgettable experience in Kasese with not just the race, but also the neon rave that promises great entertainment and a fantastic time for everyone. The after-party in Jinja effortlessly mirrored what we have in store for Kasese. It’s going to be a day full of energy, excitement, and enjoyment.”

Runners interested in joining the Tusker Lite Mt. Rwenzori Marathon can register online at www.rwenzorimarathon.com. East African Community (EAC) citizens and residents can purchase a ticket for UGX 50,000, while international runners will pay $50. Tickets are available now, offering an opportunity for both local and global participants to be part of the marathon event.
