Pepsi University Football League

Quarter Finals, Second Leg

Friday, 3pm

UCU vs Busitema (Agg 5-1)

Uganda Christian University (UCU) are confident of finally breaking their quarter-final jinx when they host Busitema University for the second leg of their Pepsi University Football League quarter-final tie this Friday at their Mukono main campus.

UCU, who are in their fifth season in the competition, have never made it past the quarter-final stage for the last four seasons since 2015.

They have been knocked out by Kampala University (2018), Uganda Martyrs (2017, 2016) and Kampala International University (2015). In their inaugural season in 2014, they didn’t make it past the group stage.

However, UCU looks to be overcoming their four-year quarter final jinx t after a commanding 5-1 victory over Busitema University in the first leg at Busitema.

UCU have never lost to Busitema and Coach Kintu Mwera is confident that can complete a double at storm to the semi finals.

“The first leg was a very good one for us. We got an even better result than we expected which means that in the second leg, we shall be playing with less pressure,” Kintu said.

“However, we shall not relax. We shall not take the game for granted and are going to do our best,” Kintu added.

For Busitema University, the game is a mission impossible but they will do their best to win it. “It was unfortunate that we conceded all those goals in the first leg. It makes our task much harder. But in football, everything is possible. We have seen teams overturn four-goal deficits before and we believe that we can do it,” Busitema coach Namugenyi Dorothy said.

“The team is in high spirits and we are going to put UCU on pressure,” she added. Bugema, Uganda martyrs University (UMU) and St Lawrence University (SLAU) have already stormed the semi finals.

Defending champions Kyambogo were ejected by Bugema University on Wednesday.
