TOTAL AFCON 2021 Qualifiers (Group B)
Thursday, 12th November 2020 – Uganda Vs Sudan – St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende (4 PM)
Uganda Cranes will face off with South Sudan Bright Stars this Thursday during match day three of the AFCON 2021 qualifier at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, before the return leg is played in four days in Nairobi.
The match will be played behind closed doors in accordance to the special arrangements as directed by the Government of Uganda, CAF guidelines and FIFA recommendations on the fight against the spread of COVID-19.
Cranes return to Continental engagement after about a six-month hiatus due to COVID-19.
With both teams now going to shade off some skin after getting rusted in the lockdown era, the fixture is hard to call and Cranes Coach Johnathan Mckinstry is very cautious albeit posing a home advantage.
“They are stubborn opponents. Gone are the days when they used to concede 4 to 5 goals,” Mckinstry told FUFA media.
Albeit heaping some praise on his match day rivals, Mckinstry is hopeful of going past the S. Sudan.
“We are confident of breaking down their resilience with full focus and professionalism. We have got the quality to go past them,” Mckinstry added.
Cranes Captain and goal keeper Denis Onyango is also poised for the match though with cautiousness.
“It is never a walkover in football. The fact that they made it to the group stages shows that they have the quality to play at every stage.”
“But for us it’s all about winning and staying focused. They are a very good resilient team as they fight up to the end. We need to take our chances created in the game.,” Onyango stated urging fans to support the team from home.
Uganda are atop Group B with four points from two games followed by Burkina Faso (4 points), Malawi (1) and South Sudan.
