The Uganda Cranes are set to take on African heavyweights Cameroon tonight in a high-profile international friendly match at the Stade de Marrakech Annexe Pitch in Morocco. The clash, which will be played under floodlights, kicks off at 9:00 PM local time (11:00 PM East African Time), and will be broadcast live on FUFA TV.
Having arrived in Morocco on Tuesday, the Cranes have undergone three intensive training sessions under new head coach Paul Put. The Belgian tactician is using the FIFA international window to assess his squad and fine-tune strategies ahead of upcoming competitive fixtures.
Despite limited time in camp, Put is optimistic about the team’s readiness for tonight’s showdown against the Indomitable Lions.
“We may have had limited time, but the attitude and intensity in training have been impressive,” said Put. “Cameroon is a strong side, but we’re ready to test ourselves. This game will provide a good benchmark.”
One of the exciting prospects in the team is debutant Jordan Obita, who plays for Hibernian FC in Scotland. The England-born left-back expressed his delight at the opportunity to wear the Cranes jersey.
“I’m thrilled to be part of the Uganda Cranes. The reception has been great, and I’m looking forward to possibly making my debut tonight. It’s an honour,” Obita shared.
Italy-based defender Elio Capradossi emphasized the match’s importance, noting that it’s more than just a friendly.
“Cameroon is a top side, but we’re prepared to compete. For us, this match is more than just a friendly—it’s a platform to prove ourselves and gel as a unit,” Capradossi said.
Midfielder Bobosi Byaruhanga, who features for Oakland Roots SC in the United States, pointed to club-level match fitness as a key advantage for many players in the squad.
“Most of us have been active at club level, which gives us an edge in terms of fitness and sharpness. We’re ready to take on Cameroon,” he noted.
Coach Put and his technical team will also use tonight’s match and the upcoming friendly against Gambia on Monday, June 9, to assess players and finalize tactical approaches ahead of future qualifiers and tournaments.
