Uganda Cup – Last 8 First Leg
Vipers 1-1 Villa
St. Mary’s Stadium

Ronald Ssekiganda scored deep into additional time at the end of 90 minutes as SC Villa earned a draw away to Vipers SC on Tuesday.

Ssekiganda’s goal cancelled out Substitute Lawrence Tezikya’s strike in the 80th minute, one that seemed to have secured victory for the Venoms on the day.

The contest had for large spells looked to be headed for a scoreless draw as Villa defended gallantly and frustrated the hosts before Tezikya who came on for Ceaser Manzoki, headed Bobosi Byaruhanga’s cross past the rooted Martin Ssenkooto to give Vipers a deserved lead.

The Jogoos who rarely created chances at the other end, got one in the third minute of the five added onto the 90 when substitute Ronald Olaki sent a hopeful cross into the area and Ssekiganda met it with a powerful header that found it’s way past Bashir Ssekagya and into the back of the net for the equaliser.

In the first half, SC Villa custodian Martin Ssenkooto twice denied Ceasar Manzoki.

Byaruhanga also came close to firing the home side early into the contest but his effort from the corner kick kissed the Woodwork.

Geoffrey Wasswa who was making a return to his former paymasters also cleared off the line a Manzoki effort.

Early in the second period, midfielder Karim Watambala’s powerful shot was well dealt with by Villa young custodian Ssenkooto.

The result sees Villa take a slim advantage and a goalless draw will be enough to send them into the semi-finals.

Vipers have now gone five games without registering a win a home in all competitions and must score in Bombo to stand any chance of progression.

The two sides will face off again in the second leg on Wednesday, June 2nd at Bombo Military Barracks Stadium.
