Uganda has been withdrawn from the upcoming Mauritius 7s 2026, officially known as the Rugby Africa Men’s Sevens Championship, due to Ebola-related travel restrictions that have prevented the team from participating in the tournament.
Tournament organizers confirmed that Uganda will no longer compete in the continental event, scheduled for June 20–21, 2026, at the SPARC Stadium in Cascavelle, Mauritius. Senegal has been selected to replace Uganda in the 12-team competition.
In a statement, organizers thanked the Uganda Rugby Union and the wider Ugandan rugby community for their understanding and cooperation following the decision.
“We extend our sincere thanks to the Uganda Rugby Union, its players, staff and supporters for their understanding and cooperation, and we look forward to welcoming them at a future edition of the tournament,” the statement said.
Senegal’s inclusion ensures the tournament retains its full complement of teams as Africa’s leading men’s sevens nations prepare to compete for the continental crown.
The Mauritius 7s, one of Rugby Africa’s flagship competitions, will feature 12 national teams from across the continent, including South Africa, Kenya, and hosts Mauritius. The two-day tournament is expected to deliver high-level competition as teams battle for African sevens supremacy and important international ranking points.
