The Uganda Cricket Association in partnership with Uganda Tourism Board, Motor Care, Bar Aviation, and Fireworks advertising is set to host the ICC Men’s World Cup trophy on Saturday, 26th August 2023 with the trophy expected to tour different parts of Kampala and Jinja.

While Uganda may not be a contender in the upcoming cricket world cup, the country’s enthusiasm is obvious as the sport has taken root and blossomed on both the local and international levels. This groundbreaking journey reflects Uganda’s incredible progress in the cricket field, with significant consequences echoing across cultural and geographical divisions.

The ICC mandate for the trip is to portray the African continent’s vast traditional and cultural history. The trophy will be delivered to the India High Commission after its arrival on Saturday. The following day, Sunday 27th August 2023, it will depart for the state house in Entebbe, followed by the highly anticipated cricket festival where the trophy will be displayed to the general public.

At the cricket festival, a number of activities will take place including a replica of the world cup tournaments, entertainment, bouncing castles, and a general get-together to celebrate the love of cricket in Uganda.

The trophy will begin its tour through Kampala, then head to Jinja on Monday, August 28th, 2023, in collaboration with the Uganda Tourism Board and Bar Aviation, and will conclude the following day at the Uganda Parliament.

Excitement has already started building up on social media as sports enthusiasts are gearing up to welcome the monumental trophy. They’re naming the trophy “Walugembe Nagenda,” a tribute to Sam Walusimbi and John Nagenda, the only Ugandans who played in the 1975 World Cup in England. You can join in the excitement by using hashtags like #CricketUganda, #CWC23, #OliOtya, and #WalusimbiNagenda. Don’t forget to follow the Uganda Cricket Association on social media for updates every day. This is not only about cricket; it’s also a chance for Uganda to shine on the world stage.
