The memory of one of Uganda’s most admired golfers, Brian Toolit, will be honoured with a special golf tournament set to take place from July 29-30 at the par 72 Kitante course.
Organised in memory of Toolit, who passed away recently, the event will bring together friends, family, and the golfing community to reflect on his life and legacy both on and off the course.
“We are organising this tournament in memory of our departed friend and brother Brian Toolit,” said event organiser Hassan Kiyemba. “We want to show all golfers what it means to carry humility, discipline, and a good heart—not just in sport but in life as well.”
According to the Independent, the competition will feature both gross amateur players and professionals, with a total prize kitty of UGX 15 million. The overall winner will walk away with UGX 5 million. Participation is free, but limited to players with a maximum handicap index of 5, while professionals and national team players will play off scratch.
Brian Toolit, who began his sporting career in Jinja, was a talented athlete who excelled in tennis and swimming before finding his calling in golf. His character, work ethic, and sportsmanship earned him admiration throughout the sports community.
Toolit’s brother, Rino Kitimbo, said the family hopes the tournament will become an annual event, rotating across different courses as it grows. “We are celebrating Brian’s life and the values he stood for. This is just the beginning of something we believe can continue his legacy.”
Among those taking part in the two-day event are Toolit’s cousin, Conrad Acaye, and close friend Ian Odokonyero, both of whom will be playing in his honour. The tournament will be played in medal format, with the top 10 players receiving awards.
