John Lejirma is on the right path to defend the Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Open Amateur title after he stormed the summit in the Friday’s third round of the event at Entebbe Club’s lakeside par-71 golf course.
Lejirma, handicap -1 who has been finishing fifth (with ties) in the previous two rounds is now atop the leaderboard off 2 over par 215. He shot an impressive 2 under par 69 on Friday. He now leads Zambia’s Chanda Bwembya by two strokes (217) ahead of Saturday’s final round.
Lejirma, a member of Kenya Railway Golf Club had a good game on Friday, shooting 36 in the front nine and 33 in the back nine. Uganda’s pair of Joseph Kasozi and Tom Jingo also shot 69 on Friday.
Zambia’s Chanda Bwembya is second ahead of final round off 4 over par 217, Marvin Kibirige is third with 5 over par 218 whilst his countrymate and pre tournament favorite Joseph Cwinya-ai (Uganda) is fourth with 6 over par 219.
Day two leader, Musamba Kapoma (Zambia) is tied for fifth (7 over par 220) with four Ugandans, that is; Joseph Kasozi, Tom Jingo, Mackie Nasser and Bulhan Matovu.
Ugandan trio of James Kato, Denis Asaba and Ibrahim Aliga cap the leaderboard off 8 over par 221 whilst day one leader Reagan Joseph Akena has disappeared into the crowd.
Saturday is a busy one with a subsidiary event also set to be played. An award ceremony for respective winners will be held in a brief 19th hole experience.
