Playing on home course, Irene Nakalembe, handicap 4 is now leader of the Tusker Malt Uganda Golf Open ladies event also known as the Uganda Ladies Golf Open after two rounds of play at Entebbe Club’s par-71 golf course.
Nakalembe who tied for fourth with Tanzania’s Vicky Elias off 7 over par 78 in Thursday’s opening round is now leader with an overall 7 over par 149 following the conclusion of the event’s second round on Friday. She shot level par 71 in day two to claim a two-shot lead.
Nakalembe who on Thursday said that her eyes are on the title had 39 gross in the front nine on Friday. She later managed an improved back nine display returning 34.
Ahead of Saturday’s final round, Kenya’s Mercy Nyanchama is second with 9 over par 151, three strokes better than title holder Martha Babirye (third) who’s now under serious pressure to make amends in the final bend of proceedings to keep the title at her grasp.
However, day one leader Meron Kyomugisha had a false outing in the second round after returning 18 over par 89 to finish fifth on Friday. She led by 7 strokes in the opening round off 1 under par 70 but now has an overall 17 over par 159 after two days of play.
Peace Kabasweka is fourth with 14 over par 156 while Gloria Mbaguta and Tanzania’s Vicky Elias are tied for sixth off 21 over par 163.
