2019 Castle Lite Uganda Open

The 2019 Castle Lite Uganda Open Golf championship tips off this Thursday, August 29 at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Kigo and will run till September 14.

A ceremonial official tee off was done on Wednesday at tee box number one by sponsors’ representatives, Uganda Golf Union (UGU) President  Innocent Kihika and Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU) President Eva Magala, Nigeria Ladies Golf Association (NLGA) President Eranem Ekwueme among others.

“This is a special event for us the ladies. We have a number of players in the silver category and we are going to be ranked worldwide. Uganda will be the first in the region to host a worldwide ranking tourney,” Magala noted. It is the 78th edition of the championship and is being played at Lake Victoria Serena course for the maiden time.

The 2019 edition was preceded by a juniors’ event that was played on Tuesday Rogers Eyoyo and Florence Achio from Mehta Golf Club emerging the Boys and Girls champions respectively.

The Ladies Open in its 69th edition tips off the 2019 Uganda Open championship this Thursday and a good number of local and foreign golfers from Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Sweden and other countries.

 Theodor VanRooyen – the Lake Victoria Serena Golf director believes that the course will be enjoyable for the golfers while Castle Lite’s Maureen Komugisha, the headline sponsors looks forward to a successful event. Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), Liquid Telecom, Pepsi, Britam, Absa, Isuzu and NTV are the other sponsors.

To promote golf tourism, Uganda tourism board (UTB) has organized a boat cruise to the prestigious Bulago Island for the golfers this Thursday and this will mainly target foreign players.
