Event: Tusker Malt Uganda Open Golf Championship 2020

Duration: 26th November  – 6th December 2020.

Venue: Uganda Golf Club, Kitante

Schedule Of Events:
*Ladies Open: 26th to 28th November
*Amateur Gross: 1st to 4th December
*Amateur Subsidiary: 5th and 6th December
*Professionals: 3rd to 6th December

Playing off handicap 5, Tooro Golf Club’s Peace Kabasweka emerged day one leader of the ladies event of the Tusker Malt Uganda Open Golf Championship currently underway at Uganda Golf Club’s par-72 course in Kitante.

Kabasweka was the only player not to reach four score as she shot a gross score of 79 on the opening day that proved that players are still rusty coming off lockdown as some lady golfers returned three-figure scores.

“I’m focused on playing each game at a time till the final time. My target is to win the championship,” Kabasweka who shot 39 on the front nine and 40 on the back nine said after her first round on Thursday.

Needless to say, inclement weather has made golfers’ life hard on the course with Rebecca Muwanguzi retuning 103 on the opening day, Chandiru Phoebe retuning 102 and Regina Namata 100.

“The rains have affected our game because a very wet course is hard to play in. I hope it doesn’t rain till we finish playing,” Kabasweka who is searching for her maiden title said as open skies threatened to disrupt the final stages of day one proceedings. It had rained a lot a day to tee-off.

Last year’s runner up Irene Nakalembe who was playing in a 3 ball pair of Caroline Namutebi and Tooro Club’s Mackline Nsenga managed a gross score of 81 on the opening.
Title holder Matha Babirye is joint second with Nakalembe on 81.

Playing on home course, Judith Komugisha who could cause havoc in the pecking order in the final day managed a gross score of 82.
Evarlynn Asiimwe and Evah O. Magala both had 83 while Harriet Kitaka and Gloria Mbaguta both managed 84.

The event which has only Ugandan players resumes on Friday and will wind down on Saturday.
The tournament sponsors are; Tusker Malt Lager (main sponsor), Next Media, Master Power Systems, Stanbic Bank, Pinnacle Security, Crown Berger, Crown Beverages, Robert Ojara Education Foundation and Case Medcare (who will handle any COVID-19 issues and other health related matters).
