The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has announced a temporary suspension of the 2025 Nile Special Women’s Rugby Premiership to allow for full preparation of the national women’s rugby team, the Lady Cranes XVs, ahead of a crucial continental competition.
According to the URU, the women’s league will pause after this weekend’s fixtures to enable the Lady Cranes to focus on their campaign in the upcoming Rugby Africa Women’s Division 1 tournament, set to take place from April 9 to April 19, 2025, in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire.
The premiership will resume on April 26, 2025, and conclude on May 17, 2025. This scheduling adjustment is aimed at ensuring that selected players and technical staff have adequate time and resources to prepare for the high-stakes tournament, where Uganda will compete for a place in the Rugby Africa Women’s Performance Division.
“We appreciate the understanding and continued support from all clubs, players, fans, and stakeholders as we rally behind our national team in this critical period,” the URU stated.
A revised fixture schedule for the Nile Special Women’s Premiership will be released soon.
